TAKING THAT AS YOUR PROJECT
How to solve a problem.
The
10 point Program.
Revive Bombay will be with you through all the steps of the process.
1. What is the problem
2. Revive Bombay meeting - Bring it up
3. Find members
4. Identify Team and Team Leader
5. Identify people with jurisdiction to solve your problem
6. Find your Advisor
7. Work with authorities and team to find ideal solution
8. What are the resources required to put solution in place
9. Revive Bombay meeting- Using the network to implement solution, resources
etc
10.Solution! Now Patrolling and monitoring to ensure sustainability
1. Identify the problem and bring it up at the next Revive Bombay
meeting.Revive Bombay can give you the voice and identity esp when
you approach people, authorities, media etc. Make sure the problem
is small enough to deal with and large enough to want to do something
about it. If you take up something as general as poverty, or tree
plantation, you might spend a few years on it. Instead identify
something like poverty around your home, or
tree plantation on a certain road. THIS THEN BECOMES YOUR PROJECT.
And you have taken it up as Your Project.
2. Identify others who would be passionate about solving this problem
too.Eg Friends, relatives, neighbours, Revive Bombay members etc
3.
Is there a solution to this problem/Can this be made better or improved
further
4.
Identify a team of 5-10 people who will work with you on reaching
a solution. The team should be a mix of people who have time to
devote, people who have the resources to reach your solution, and
people who can think up the correct solution - taking into consideration
all factors. Identify a Team Leader. This is not a person with most
time, but someone who can coordinate all the efforts of the other
members, give direction and when
needed, delegate responsibilities to the Team members. Usually the
person who has started out the team.
5. Identify the people that can bring this solution to a reality.
Revive Bombay and its members can help identify who would be the
people to approach to solve your problem - be it BMC authorities,
state government (secretaries of State, ministers, etc),police,
railways, private firms etc. Usually if it has something to do with
Bombay, it falls under the jurisdiction of the
BMC. Therefore approach your Ward officer. They can give you the
guidance required, or tell you the problems associated with that
issue. To know which ward you belong to, click on "WARD map/map
of Bombay". You can then click on where you live to get the
information of your Ward, your ward officer and their telephone
numbers etc or call 1916.
6. Identify who you want as your Team Advisor is. The person you
choose will become an Advisory Board and has to be approved by the
organisation and must be agreeable to be associated with the project.
The person should be able to
advise the Team Leader on the direction of the team. The person
will remain as long as the team remains. Once the solution has been
put in place, the team and the advisory board position cease to
exist.
i)
An adult who is genuinely interested in seeing your solution through
ii) A person who can further your cause because of their background, network
and resources
iii) A person who can spare time to help you out with your solution.
7. Once you've identified and contacted the authorities responsible, understand
why this problem has not been solved. Collate it with your solution
and come to the final solution.
8. Meet with your team members and work out how do you now go about
putting your solution into action. What are the resources required
- permissions, money, publicity etc.
9. Bring up this information at the next Revive Bombay meeting,
ie what is required now. As a group of individuals, we can use our
network of members to get you the resources needed. Understand that
whatever work you do should be done quietly. The lesser publicity
given to the problem, the better. Publicise the final product. Not
the unfinished one. You might alienate a
lot of government officials by doing that.
MOST IMPORTANT
10. Once the solution has been put in place, only HALF the work
has been done. Now you must have your team members monitor that
your solution sustains itself. For eg, if you plant trees, you should
ensure that your trees arent' uprooted by others. If you clean up
unwanted elements, you should ensure that they do not return. Patrolling
and monitoring IS VITAL. Otherwise all the nine points are useless.
The idea is not to expand the organisation - but to bring about
a civic responsibility that anyone who is serious and passionate
about making a chance - can.
We are trying to educate people to fix these problems at the grass
roots level. We know that this does not always happen. Therefore,
we use the network of Revive Bombay to solve problems too. So if
you think you have a problem that is too large to solve, drop us
a line or come to our meetings and lets work out how we can solve
your problem, using our experience and knowledge.
The city has become an angry young man. Tired of the way things
are, we are ready to stand up against the problems and make a change.
We want to bring back what was once a beautiful city. Because its
our city
