1) Bollywood Walk of Fame (Hemanth Rao - hemanth@hemanth.net):
While our presentation is ready, we await an apppointment with Deputy Chief Minister, Chaggan Bhujbal to discuss our project and get his approval as Minister for Tourism.
2) Pet a Tree (Rishi Tejuja -rishitejuja@utisel.com):
Would like to plant trees along Mahim Causeway. They have spoken to various bodies and are working on raising the funds required to do a project like this. The Hiranandani's have already committed to supplying the group with saplings for free, and the use of their landscaping department for this purpose.
3) Accessibility for Individuals with Disabilities (AID) (Manish Maker -
manish.maker@makers.co.in):
Update not received.
4) Stray Dogs ( Kimaya Salaskar - kimaya salaskar@hotmail.com)
No update
5) Make-a-Wish (Shraddha Thacker - shraddhathacker12@yahoo.com)
Trying to meet with the Make-a-Wish foundation. Need team members to help in going to organizations and help bring wishes true through their contacts.
6) Mobile Phone Law (Freishia Bomanbehram -freishia.bomanbehram@aajtak.com)
We studied this project and after doing our due diligence, we have realized that there have been no conclusive studies done to prove that using hands-free on your mobile phone while driving is safe. Studies done in the United States by the National Safety Council show that while using your mobile phone is similar to the disturbance caused by switching radio stations, it is talking to someone while driving that is ithe main problem, and that it is more of a mental distraction rather than a physical distraction. Therefore, since there was nothing concrete done, we decided to follow the right path and have abandoned this project until there are studies to show that using mobile phones in the car on handsfree as being safe.
7) Adopt-a-kid (Dr. Sohan Shah - drsohan@indiatimes.com)
The idea here is the team finds a child, or childen who they literally adopt upto a certain age. The team meets with the children once a week, takes them out for a movie etc, or the park, acts like an older brother etc. The problem faced here were that a lot of children get into danger when they disappear like that with an unknown face. The underworld is very active in keeping tabs on these street children, and by becoming close to these kids, we could be at the same time endangering them.
8) Ambulance Project - (Hina Oomer - hinao@hotmail.com & Hemanth Rao
-hemanth@hemanth.net)
We have met with Mr. Somaiya of the Somaiya Trust to tie-up with us on this project. He was thoroughly impressed and along with supporting the Ambulance project, he has also promised to buy two new ambulances and hand them to Revive Bombay!!
5) Hoardings PIL with Anahita Pandole (Hrishi Dugar - hrishi.dugar@czbpartners.com)
We have decided to abandon this project. While we have lawyers who are willing to work with us on this project, the key issue was - how are we adding value to what has already been done by Dr.
Pandole. And the answer came back - nothing. They have already done a lot of work and we don't want to merely add our name in the pot, so that we can be associated with this. We should get involved if there is something different in our petition that can add value to the PIL filed by Dr.
Pandole.
6) Trucks & Lorries pollution (Hem Tejuja - htejuja@hotmail.com)
We have approached Ashok Leyland on working with us to change the exhaust direction of trucks. The meeting with the AL man will be by the next RBT meeting.
7) Saving 2 Heritage statues (Hemanth Meka Rao - hemanth@hemanth.net)
The BMC Senior Heritage Engineer has found out that these statues are not owned by any oher governmental firm, therefore the BMC can claim possession of them. We will now be writing to the Municipal Commissioner to repossess these statues and hand them to Revive Bombay.
3) WINS!
The Somaiya Trust promises Revive Bombay two state-of-the-art ambulances for its Ambulance project.
4) Miscellaneous
We have been facing problems with respect to sending the minutes.
1) Having someone to write the minutes
2) Database problems
But both of these have now been taken care of and henceforth, we should all be receiving our minutes promptly.
Thank You!
We ended the meeting with a BIG Thank You to Kiran & Riaz, the owners of Cafe Mocha and the Mocha team headed by Mr.
Lalit, for making this meeting possible. They provided some delicious refreshments which were gone quite quickly!
